This bombshell of a learnin’ came courtesy of Pete the Vet, Ireland AM’s resident vet and dog cheerer-upper.
(Ireland AM is a breakfast TV show on Éire’s TV3, for all you unlucky foreigners)
Turns out that depression is quite common in dogs and according to Pete, there are five main causes:
1) DEATH OF A COMPANION
2) ARRIVAL OF A NEW COMPANION
Nobody likes when some bitch shows up on your turf, acting all high and mighty.
3) OTHER CHANGES IN SOCIAL LIFE
Like changing your Facebook status from “in a relationship” to “single”.
5) OLD AGE
Don’t worry, if you think that your dog or a dog close to you may be depressed, this handy Canine Depression Guide seems to have everything you need.
I didn’t actually learn how to cheer up a dog, but I think I’ve learned enough for one day.
